Monsters & Dames 2012

In late 2011 there was an open submission call to all exhibitors for the annual Monsters & Dames book that the Emerald City ComiCon publishes. I put this piece together for it but unfortunately it was not chosen for the final book. However, I’m quite proud it and have finally got around to posting it here.

I had prints for sale at ECCC this year. If you like the piece and would like a print please contact me. Prices include shipping.

I would like to thank everyone who stopped by my table this weekend at the Emerald City ComiCon. I’m especially grateful to those of you who bought books and prints from me this weekend. It was a really great experience and I hope to be back next year.

‘The Prevailist’ in print!

This weekend I will be exhibiting at Emerald City Comicon and I will have with me printed copies of The Prevailist preview. It contains a ten page preview of my online graphic novel, an art gallery of some of my inked work, the short story Automated and some sketches from both projects. I will be at table A-11. On March 30 – April 1 I will in Artist Alley at the Emerald City ComiCon. I’ve been busy gearing up for the event. It’ll be the first con I’ve exhibited at since 1996.

I’ll be at table A-11 selling some comics, prints and handing out these post-cards to promote The Prevailist. Hope to see you there.

Ralph McQuarrie 1929- 2012

My entire life, literally, I have been inspired by the designs of Ralph McQuarrie. Before I even knew who he was I was thrilled by the looks of an X-Wing fighter, the Millenium Falcon and Darth Vader in Star Wars. I was marveling at the AT-AT, Snow Speeder and Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back. I was awe inspired by the spherical space craft in E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. And a when Indiana Jones opened a book showing an illustration of what the Ark of the Covenant is capable of, my imagination was fully engaged for the adventure ahead. By the time Return of the Jedi opened in 1983 I was completely aware of who Ralph McQuarrie was and the unique contributions he brought to the films I loved. I make my living as an artist today due in no small part to being inspired by the amazing creatures, ships and worlds he came up with and simply wanting to do that to. He may be gone from this world but his work will continue to influence and inspire for generations. Thank you Mr. McQuarrie and God’s speed.

Jerry Goldsmith would have been 83 today. He passed away in 2004 but his amazing music lives on. He was and is my favorite film composer. God’s speed!

JAWS, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman: The Movie, The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Amazing Stories, Always, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, The Lost World, The Patriot, The Phantom Menace, Seven Years in Tibet, Minority Report, Attack of the Clones, Memoirs of a Geisha, Revenge of the Sith and on and on.

John Williams’ music as been a part of my life from the very beginning. At three years old I was marching around the living room as the Star Wars theme on LP blasted from the Hi-Fi. He has written some of the most memorable and lasting music of any contemporary composer. His music as brought such joy to my life and I would not be able to thank him enough.
